"A Russian-Canadian filmmaker gains unprecedented access to follow a Russian Army battalion in Ukraine." says the the films IMDB.
The documentary Russians at War was suppose to have its North American premier at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Friday the 13th 2024 but was paused on the Thursday; in what the festival called "an unprecedented move".
The filmmaker is Anastasia Trofimova, and she says her film is an anti-war film.
The Ukrainian Consul General Oleh Nikolenko says its propaganda and "Russian propaganda must be contained, not promoted in theaters.".
Even the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Canada Chrystia Freeland weighed in saying "It's not right for Canadian public money to be supporting the screening and production of a film like this." This is do to the fact that the film is a co-production between France and Canada and has been made with Canadian tax dollars and Tax Credits.
So is it propaganda?, Should TIFF have paused it? Should you see it?

There is no band that has explained Canada to Canadians like the Tragically Hip.
No Dress Rehearsal is a four part docuseries charting the life of the band the defined a country.
Directed by Mike Downie, brother of the bands late frontman Gord; this series has behind the scenes footage, interviews with the band and famous supports such as Will Arnett, Dan Aykroyd, Jay Baruchel, Sarah Harmer, Geddy Lee, George Stroumboulopoulos, The Trailer Park Boys ,Justin Trudeau the current Prime Minister of Canada and many more.
It had its premiere at The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) September 5th and will stream on Prime Video September 20th 2024.
